DEL HUNTER  (Vocals, Congas, Percussion)

This vibrant, energetic singer began her singing career in 1973.  Her ability to duplicate almost any style enables her to sing a full spectrum of music from Jazz to Blues to Rock to Ballads.  Her years of ear training have allowed her to be right at home singing Background vocals on many studio recording projects.  Her dynamic personality and voice, combined with endless energy, have helped bringSTEPPIN’ OUT to the forefront of the Okanagan Music Scene.

KEITH HUNTER   (Vocals, Electric Guitar, Flute)

Keith has been involved in the music industry from a very young age playing many different instruments throughout his career. Keith graduated with a musical composition degree from Grant McEwan College, in Edmonton.  In addition to being owner/engineer/producer of “Hunter Audio” recording studio, in Kelowna, he is a song writer, arranger, producer and performer for his own music as well as contract work for film soundtracks, videos, jingles, and other artists material.  Keith enjoys staying very involved in the music industry.  Keith plays Electric Guitar and Flute on stage as well as singing Lead and Background vocals.

THE SOUND

With the help of today’s musical technology on computers, sequencers & synthesizers, STEPPIN’ OUThas put together a sound not typical of most Duo’s.  After countless hours of learning the songs, programming the sounds, arranging, recording and doing the final mixing we present our songs with the sound of the Original performers.  Accompaniment of background instrumentation includes: drums, bass, piano, organ, synthesized keyboards, horn sections, string sections, all imaginable percussion instruments, to name a few.

She has an intense passion for singing. She prides herself in being able to perform anything from the oldies of the 20s, 30s and 40s jazz, to pop, gospel and rhythm and blues. As well as starring in Viva Musica’s successful stage production of “Showboat” in the year 2000. “I love the stage, and singing energizes me!” says Teena, she performs throughout the Okanagan valley taking every opportunity to sing, act and dance whenever she can.

Teena began singing with her siblings in their family quartet at a very young age. She was raised in California and sang solos with her mother as well as in the church choir. After high school, she traveled and sang all over the US, and parts of New Zealand. She received her layman crtiquing from noted artist Barry McGuire, with countless hours of listening and imitating and perfecting the sounds from a variety of her favorite female vocalist.

Since the inception of the ParksAlive program in 1998, Teena has received rave reviews from this venue and is sought after to entertain for them each summer at various parks around Kelowna. “Art Walk” in Lake Country just celebrated it 11th year in existence and she’s had the privilege of entertaining for this fantastic event for the past 5 years. Have you heard of M.A.S.K.?? These letters stand for Musical Actors and Singers in Kelowna. What they do is put on high-energy musical theater shows! Teena just loves them. In previous years they asked her to join them in their Christmas productions which of course she accepted and she looks forward to performing with them as their regular soloist for all of 2008. Who are they?

Son de Cuba

Son de Cuba is a group integrated by Cuban musicians, all graduates from Escuela Nacional de Musica, Cuba.

Each member had previously worked with several bands in Havana, but it was with Fiebre Latina that they first worked together in a recording later promoted during their European tour in 1993. Son de Cuba was born when the current members of the band decided to return to their roots and play traditional Cuban rhythms. They have now been performing for over 8 years with great success. They have played in several festivals, which include the opening for the first Luminara Festival in Victoria, THE LATIN-CARIBBEAN FESTIVAL and The Folk Fest, also in Victoria.

Throughout the years, they have also performed in some of the best well-known clubs in Vancouver; The Commodore [as invited musicians for Havana Jam, a larger Cuban band], Mesa Luna, and in Victoria, CLUB CAFE MERENGUE , Legends, Hugo’s, Tommy Bahamas and also The Empress Hotel and the University of Victoria, as well as in Nanaimo and Salt Spring Island. From the very beginning they have been involved in the community, playing in charity events and for community associations such as The Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Centre and The Latin American Association in Victoria.
Their repertoire is essentially Cuban (son, timba, cha-cha-cha, pilon, conga, guajira), but it also includes other rhythms like samba, merengue and cumbia.

As singer, songwriter, composer and producer – the talent is limitless and his inspiration has no boundaries. “I want to capture people with a unique sound and hopefully find some common ground through my lyrics. My aim is ultimately to make music that I would buy, albums that I would want to listen to on repeat in my car.” Pulling from a wide variety of influence from neo-soul legend D’angelo to the folk roots of Ben Harper or Ray LaMontagne, Thomas has found his own sound some where in the middle. “I have yet to find a genre that my music fits into completely and I havenʼt heard any other artist that sounds like me. I think that’s a good thing. I would say itʼs unique.”

Currently Thomas owns and operates a landscape design company where he builds custom boulder retaining walls, stairs, and brick patios. ” I thrive on creativity, and although rock work isn’t my hearts cry, it pays the bills, and I find fulfillment in being able to create something custom and beautiful from raw natural materials for someone to enjoy.” Operating heavy machinery and smelling of diesel and rock dust by day, Thomas cleans up into a jazz piano lounge performer and studio producer by night.

Thomas does all of his recording in his home studio, and through his intuitive ear has achieved a remarkable production quality. Fascinated with audio production and addicted to the creative process, Thomas claims he has just begun his musical journey. “I am in constant motion, writing and creating new songs, and I always look forward to sharing my newest project with people”
